Black Thinking Hats
Black Thinking Hats: Black is the color of logic and negativity, representing caution and negativity. It represents the thinking process of reflecting on whether facts and judgments are in line with the evidence, and considering negative factors such as risks, difficulties, and potential problems.

Are you aware that the Turtle-shaped Rice Cakes, filled with auspicious symbols, with their delicate surface patterns and imprints of turtle shells, are all created from the "cake molds" crafted by skillful artisans? These meticulously carved wooden molds were an essential tool in rural societies in the early years.

Mold for cakes can be classified into molds for rice cakes, molds for pastries, cake molds, and candy molds. The materials come from nature and the usage is intimately connected with our life. The patterns on these molds are the transmission of wisdom from our ancestors, and behind these molds lies the profound traditional culture of Taiwan. The vitality of the motifs on the rice cake mold and the rustic elegance revealed by the carved traces over time are both the wisdom of traditional culture and accumulation of history.

In modern times, these molds are often made of plastic. The plastic cake molds, developed in the 1970s, have gradually replaced wooden ones due to their light weight and their ability to be mass-produced. The wooden cake seals, delicately carved by old masters, are now less common.

Master WU,SHIH-WEI of interest, became the successor to the national treasure-level wood-carving master, SHIH,CHEN-YANG. Without the active efforts by government bodies to organize successor training programs, this traditional wood-carving craft would follow the fate of plastic cake molds replacing wooden ones, and could only be seen in pictures in the future.

Our previous generation, they not only stopped making rice cakes, but almost all traditional things were discarded as well. When people's value choices make something leave their daily life, it in turn affects the entire industry. With decreased demand, it naturally fades away over time."

In reverse thinking, what's the food that best represents Taiwan? Bubble tea, stinky tofu, fried chicken? "Upon reflection, why don't we introduce our rice cuisine to foreigners? Instead, we only talk about the night market snacks, which are not things we usually eat at home."

What do they eat at home in Taiwan? We find inspiration from our daily lives and put the answer in handmade Turtle-Shaped Rice Cakes on the god's table. Because the rice cakes, they come from the land of Taiwan, made by the people of Taiwan, and moreover, they are embedded in the culture of Taiwan's festivals and solar terms, like a tie binding the entire land together.
