Crisis of Leopard cats
Bitten to death by dog
Dogs and cats pose threats to leopard cats through food competition, infectious diseases, and even attacks.
Leopard cats live in a shallow mountain environment. Since there are settlements and individual households in the area, there are many domestic or stray dogs and cats that often move freely in the mountains.
Dogs and cats are not native to Taiwan. They not only compete with leopard cats for food resources, especially pregnant female leopard cats and their cubs, but they can also transmit canine distemper, parvovirus and other diseases to leopard cats, causing their death. (Source: Chen Zhenzhi, 2018)
Larger or grouped domestic dogs may even directly hunt leopard cats, causing direct or indirect death of leopard cats.
From our records of photographing the leopard cat, we can find that 20 minutes after the leopard cat passed by, the dogs followed the smell of the leopard cat and chased it.

★Do not let stray dogs and cats roam freely, do not abandon them, and do not feed them
Please do not let dogs and cats roam freely. If you want to take them out, please use a leash. Dogs and cats at home should also be vaccinated regularly to prevent canine distemper, parvovirus and rabies infections, and they should also develop the habit of not feeding small animals in the wild.
