While foraging and other activities, leopard cats ventured across roads and were hit by speeding vehicles and died. The construction and widening of roads not only increased the risk of leopard cats being hit and killed, but also destroyed the integrity of their habitats, creating the isolation has hindered the genetic exchange of the leopard cat group, and at the same time, it has also caused conflicts between the leopard cat and local residents.
In 2022, 31 leopard cats were reported to be killed by cars in Taiwan (the highest year), of which 14 were in Nantou and 4 were in Changhua, accounting for 58% of the total number of leopard cats killed by cars; the number of leopard cats killed by cars in Changhua doubled . During the six-year period from 2017 to 2022, a total of 9 leopard cats were killed by cars in Changhua (statistical data source is the Endemic Biological Research and Conservation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture).

In order to prevent the unfortunate occurrence of leopard cats being hit and killed by cars, counties and cities where leopard cats appear in Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua and Nantou will set up signs on the roadside to remind passing vehicles to reduce their speed. If you find road signs such as leopard cats or beware of animals on the roadside, or drive through shallow mountainous roads in Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua where leopard cats often appear, slow down and pay attention to the road ahead. When you find an injured, dead or orphaned baby leopard cat, be sure to take an image of the leopard cat and immediately report it to the Taiwan Leopard Cat Conservation Association, or call 1999 to report it to the competent authorities of each county and city government.
