YANG TZU HSIEN is a member of the Changhua County Council and the first council member to speak out for the protection of leopard cats. He and Teacher Luo held a press conference to call on the government to formulate regulations to protect leopard cats, hoping to establish a leopard cat reserve. Our abilities are limited and we can only protect leopard cats through ourselves and active publicity. If we can use legislation to allow various government departments to protect leopard cats, the effect will definitely be better.

1.Are there any leopard cats in Changhua? If so, where are they?

I know that there are leopard cats in Changhua. The leopard cats in Changhua are all located in Dadu River, which is the junction of Taichung and Changhua County. There is also Maoluo River on the east side of Bagua Mountain in Fenyuan Township. You can see the leopard cats by looking at the wall map. The leopard cat is probably in this area of Fenyuan Township.

2.Have you ever heard of leopard cat being harmed?

No one specifically catches leopard cats, because leopard cats are now protected animals and are not suitable for breeding. However, some people still hurt leopard cats. For example, there is a road sign on the roadside of Baozang Temple in Fenyuan Township asking everyone to drive slower. , because it is a leopard cat protected area. People usually drive by very quickly at night. In addition, leopard cats come out to look for food at night, so some leopard cats will be hit by cars. No one would intentionally hurt leopard cat, it was usually accidental and unnoticed. This kind of accidental killing of leopard cat on the road is called road kill.

3.Are you engaged in any activities to protect leopard cats?

We have organized activities related to the protection of leopard cats, because the council members supervise the government and then make suggestions to the county government, so I have organized activities to ask the county government to protect leopard cats, so I have had some opportunities to cooperate with your school before.
To protect the leopard cat, we hope that the county government can allocate funds for some activities. In other words, the county government has many administrative units, and the county government will also be divided into many bureaus. Please ask each bureau to do some actions to protect the leopard cat. For example, setting up on the roadside to slow down vehicles requires the Department of Traffic, and promoting or encouraging farmers to adopt organic farming requires the Department of Agriculture.

4.How do you want to protect leopard cats? Does Changhua have relevant laws to protect leopard cats?

There is currently no law to protect leopard cat in Changhua, but I am working hard to promote it, so it is a law, an autonomous regulation. For example, just like your class has class rules, each county government has to make it by itself, because I As a county councilor, I will submit a proposal to the Changhua County Government to formulate it. The most fundamental way is to protect leopard cats through laws, because the actions or methods of protecting leopard cats may change or restrict the way some people live or work. Only by providing subsidies or incentives through government policies can people be willing to cooperate. .

5.Miaoli County has formulated leopard cat protection regulations. Does Changhua have relevant regulations?

How can we protect leopard cats? There are many aspects. For example, we just mentioned road killing and poison killing, and what about dog killing, right? How to solve the poison killing, that is, we hope not to spray pesticides, and the units in charge of agriculture can go and tell the farmers whether they should How to adjust the planting methods if we use less pesticides? For example, if they raise chickens, the government can provide some subsidies for using fences to protect their chickens. Then there is dog killing, and we should tell people not to abandon their pets at home, because this It will damage the ecology. I have not heard of anyone taking a dog to bite a leopard cat. It is possible that wild dogs in the wild bit a leopard cat. Wild dogs have their own territory. When they find other animals entering their territory, they will attack collectively. There are also incidents of humans being bitten, so do not abandon pets or feed stray or wild animals.

6.What do you think the government and the private sector should do to protect leopard cats?

Miaoli County has an autonomous ordinance for leopard cats, so our Changhua County can also have an autonomous ordinance. Then I invited many experts, scholars, or friends who cherish leopard cats to write articles together, and there were many pages and several articles. Hopefully the county government can come and enforce these things.
